Farmers Market Whirl Wind

Each week it feels like Thursday evening gets here more quickly than the last. Monday- Wednesday I spend my nights preparing more inventory to replace the items sold the week prior and it always seems like I run out of daylight before tasks on my to-do list. Between selling baby buns, walking the goats after work and watering all my flowers and garden plants I am one worn out cookie. But I would not trade this busy season for anything in the world. And this hard-working lifestyle somehow always feels much more rewarding than anything I tried prior.

Our small business is really starting to get wind in its sails. Between selling beehives, bee queens, rabbits, handspun yarn and other farmers market wares I am really starting to see this full time homesteading dream becoming a reality. God has found a blessing for me to discover every time I feel overwhelmed or question these choices. I just have to keep up the drive and passion and I just know it will fall into place.

As I walk into the yard to care for the flower beds I am shocked by the pop of color my peony bush displays and its light lemony aroma. The fresh cut flowers have been selling well at the market and it brings me joy to have others welcome a little slice of the homestead into their homes. The honey bees buzz over my head to feverously work the Russian olive trees that are currently in full bloom, emitting a sweet smell and the promise of honey in a few more days. How did I fall into this garden of Eden? Peonys!

The goats quietly bleat behind me as they munch away in the pasture, tails flittering. The dogs romp up the driveway, mouths agape as if their smiles could be as big as mine realizing how blessed we all are to live here. Free roaming chickens wander around the flower beds with heads tilted, eyeing the ground for a slow grasshopper or perchance a mouse, if they were only so lucky.  One of the barn cats sits perched on top of the chicken coop watching over her kingdom. And I take a deep breath knowing this is where I was always meant to be. God is good.
