I have the sweetest little nook in my house for spinning angora yarn. The light from the big window behind my seat helps me to see what I am working with and I am nestled right next to the wood stove for maximum comfort. My traditional Ashford spinning wheel is the perfect tool for making light work of the fine fiber. My boyfriend and his mom went to an auction a couple of weekends ago and he scored this pristine spinning wheel for $75! We have been looking for months for the right wheel and this one simply fell into our laps. God is good. I had to make some adjustments with the brake but after an hour of tinkering she was up and running like new!

I will have you know I am a beginning spinner but after reading the book Spinning for Softness and Speed by Madrona Pub I had confidence on my side and a bobbin partially filled with angora yarn within an hour. The gauge is no where perfect but I kind of like this first round for something like a scarf. The feel of this yarn is absolutely to die for and I love the natural blend of colors from all of my rabbits. I will finish this bobbin once I clean and card more of my current wool stash. Eventually, I’d like to train my angoras to stay calm sitting on my lap as I spin.
I had a lot of experienced spinners telling me I wouldn’t be able to just start on a wheel. I would need to work with a drop spindle first and start with much easier fiber. Angora wool is what I have on hand so this is what I am learning with. I don’t much care for people telling me I can’t do something. My life has a mantra- I do what I put my mind to. If you have been reading this blog for any short amount of time you will know this is true. I am not one to easily give up and I usually find a way to teach myself new tasks and skills which is a must when homesteading!
I am no where near ready to begin selling my yarn as I would still like to perfect my method but I am almost ready to create my first angora garment! When I was younger I taught myself how to knit and my grandmother taught me how to crochet so I plan to either knit or crochet a scarf and eventually work up to a pair of angora mittens and a matching hat. With five angoras I should easily be able to make some Christmas gifts for those close to my heart. I might even venture to make myself a pair of socks out of angora wool. Swoon!

Hey!
Thank you for the tips. Early on I realized I didn’t want a cluttered blog with banner advertising and pop-ups. I will look into it a little more but I am just not sure that is how I want to drive income to the homestead. Again I appreciate the info though. Time to research!

Definitely imagine that which you said. Your favorite reason seemed to be on the internet the simplest factor to be mindful of. I say to you, I certainly get irked at the same time as people think about issues that they plainly do not recognize about. You controlled to hit the nail upon the highest and also defined out the whole thing with no need side-effects , people can take a signal. Will likely be again to get more. Thank you
